Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, at least for churches that observe the traditional church (Gregorian) calendar. That includes the Anglican Church, so there have been services at our church in Miyazaki today.
Lent commemorates the time spent by Jesus in the wilderness at the beginning of his ministry, and is a time of repentance and preparation for Holy Week and Easter, often marked by some (usually only symbolic) fasting. I usually give up coffee, and cut down on a few other things.
